Sit and Watch the Sun Rise

I know you must be very busy and rushed - and have to get to work.... But.... just this one time - be kind to yourself -and watch the sunrise.

The winter sun gets up later so its even easier to go out at that time of year. Put on your slippers or tennis shoes - even in summer you may need a hat, gloves, a warm sweater. You may look a fright! But no matter. Go outside and breath. The air is cool and crisp.

Just before sunrise birds are singing. The robin has returned. I heard warbler- like songbirds. Find a place and sit. Spend just a minute or so. Breath deeply at least 3 times before you get up and fly back inside. The view can be wondrous.

When you start your coffee, you may be more aware of the magnificent aroma. Maybe take that coffee outside for another brief moment. Then before the mood shifts, tap on your gratitude - gratitude for each color of red, orange, pink, peach, and blue, tap on the wonderful clear air, the quiet, the lights in the distance, the outline of the mountain (or ocean, lake, plains or city) - be grateful for the place where you are so lucky to live.

Keep tapping as you look around you and feel gratitude for all the little things you see. Maybe take a moment to read an inspirational page or two. Be mindful that we are in a new time, a new and better day. Then plan your day including a plan for kindness to someone you meet. Lastly, thank and be grateful for yourself - for your great kindness to you.

Abundance

"Whatever you think people are withholding for you - praise, appreciation, assistance, loving care, and so on - give it to them. You don't have it? Just act as if you had it, and it will come. Then, soon after you start giving, you will start receiving. You cannot receive what you don't give. Outflow determines inflow. Whatever you think the world is withholding from you, you already have, but unless you allow it to flow out, you won't even know that you have it. This includes abundance." Eckart Tolle, A New Earth

"...We can make no mistake about this if we realize that the truth is the vital principle of the Universal Mind and is Omnipresent.  For instance, if you require health, a realization of the fact that the "I" in you is spiritual and that all spirit is one; that whatever a part is the whole must be, will bring about a condition of health, because every cell in the body must manifest the truth as you see it.  If you see sickness; they (the cells) will manifest sickness; if you see perfection they must manifest perfection."

Hug a Tree!

You've heard sneering angry folks talk about 'tree huggers'. But, they'd be amazed if they tried it! And, so will you! I learned this from my sister in Illinois, who learned it from her sister-in-law from England.

I recommend finding a quiet woodland area; the Bosque or the mountains; somewhere no one is around to laugh at you - but you can laugh at yourself if you want. Then kind of gaze at trees and ask various trees if they would give you a hug. You'll not likely get an answer, but eventually you will pick one without really knowing why.

Walk up and spread your arms out as far around the tree as possible. Look straight up into the top branches, imagine how long this tree has been alive and what it has seen in its lifetime - how long it will yet live and what lies in its future.

Then rest your cheek against the rough bark and look around. Imagine the tree living and breathing; imagine its heart. While it seems solid and fixed, there is a flow of nourishment from the earth, a yielding, and mightiness. Its leaves will bloom in the spring and turn in the fall - a miracle if you think about it. Contemplate - for just a while then continue on.

The first time I did this I felt nothing and was in the middle of saying so when I lost my balance and nearly fell over from the emotions flooding me. I hope you, too, will have the courage to feel the power of a tree. Go ahead! I dare ya!

The Power of Attention

...:Attention is called concentration; this power is directed by the will; for this reason we must refuse to concentrate or think of anything except the things we desire. Many are constantly concentrating upon sorrow, loss and discord of very kind; as thought is creative it necessarily follows that this concentration inevitably leads to more loss, more sorrow and more discord. How could it be otherwise?

On the other hand, when we meet with success, gain or any other desirable condition, we naturally concentrate upon the effects of these things and thereby create more, so it follows that much leads to more. "

it is poverty consciousness..." Haanel

Breathing Meditation

A friend was describing a meditation class she had attended saying that 90% of meditation is stopping negative thoughts and 10% is the actual meditation. She thought of using EFT for removing negative thoughts. I think she's on the right track - EFT seems perfect to add to a meditation practice.

Start your EFT meditation by tapping on aches and pains if you have them, then on whatever or whomever is aggravating you, proceed to any issues like fear, sadness, anger or events of the past that come up.

There's no need to search for issues, just sit and see if anything comes up. After a bit of tapping, you should begin to feel a calmness and maybe even experience a deep sigh. If you remain tense, continue tapping until calmness is reached - this may not happen during the first day of meditation.

The breathing meditation below is one that may work well to start. You may choose to continue tapping while doing the breathing or you may sit with hands in your lap - or with hands on your knees, thumb and forefinger formed in a circle.

From "The Sutra on Full Awareness of Breathing" the Buddha instructs his disciples:

"Breathing in a long breath, one knows, 'I am breathing in a long breath' Breathing out a long breath, one knows, 'I am breathing out a long breath'

Continue breathing repeating words similar to 'I am breathing in a short breath. I am breathing out a short breath'

'I am breathing in and am aware of my whole body. I am breathing out....'

'I am breathing in and making my whole body calm and at peace. I am breathing out...'

'I am breathing in and feeling joyful. I am breathing out...'

'I am breathing in and feeling happy. I am breathing out...'

'I am breathing in and am aware of the activities of the mind in me. I am breathing out...'

The Buddha said that "if developed and practiced continuously ... (this mediation) will be rewarding and of great benefit."

The Sun To Meditate Upon

"The Solar Plexus has been likened to the sun of the body, because it is a central point of distribution for the energy which the body is constantly generating. This energy is very real energy, and this sun is a very real sun, and the energy is being distributed by very real nerves to all parts of the body, and is thrown off in an atmosphere which envelopes the body.

If this radiation is sufficiently strong the person is called magnetic; he is said to be filled with personal magnetism...

When the Solar Plexus is in active operation and is radiating life, energy and vitality to every part of the body, and to every one whom he meets, the sensations are pleasant, the body is filled with health and all with whom he comes in contact experience a pleasant sensation."
